Could a bad cable very well be the issue? I'm hesitant on buying a new interface and spending $400 and not be able to use it as well. When I move the cable I hear static and clipping in the speakers so this may be a cause to the static as well. I'm starting to think my microphone cable is causing a lot of problems so I'm planning on testing it with one of my friends's cables. In some circumstances I've used a separate pre-amp going into the FP10 for better signal to noise ratio and more workable levels. I use a Presonus FP10 firewire interface and I have to set my input at around 7/10 to get a decent level. If the preamp is decent in the M- Trak 2, the signal to noise should be ok, if it's crap, and there's more noise for your liking, then your going to have to deal with that issue first. Try setting for example your input gain say 8/11 then output 7/11 then master lvl say 6/11 Ie it appears from your info that your input level is lower than your output I would go back to looking at your Gain staging. Any help would be appreciated so I can start recording without any issues. Idk what ASIO's problem is but I didn't have these issues before other than the static in the background. I'm also not getting any playback after using ASIO when my headphones are hooked up through my audio interface. I have the in gain set to 3-5/11 the out gain set to 6/11 and the main level set to 6/11 on my interface and the mic set to 100% in the sound control panel. My current setup is an MXL 3000 microphone hooked up through my M Audio M Track 2 Channel audio interface.

Does anyone have a clue what's causing this and how to fix it? This problem is starting to irritate me, for months I've been trying to get a consistent flow going to record but obstacles seem to keep getting in the way and it seems I wasted money on equipment I can't even use.
The problem is ASIO turns my microphone volume down to where I literally gotta scream into the microphone while kissing it to get any sound. I originally was using the default output settings but it was causing static in my recordings from my interface (I'm not even sure) so I started using ASIO and it seems to get rid of the static. I'm having a problem with ASIO and my microphone volume.
I'm not sure if this is the correct thread for this issue but I'm gonna place it here anyways.
